1010 John ohioguy24@a GameCube <subtitle>BurnOut<subtitle> <content>Without any shadow of a doubt, this game is very underrated, and then some. Burnout has been unfairly bashed by amateur and professional reviewers all over the Internet. Frankly, I don\'t understand people\'s pessimistic attitude. I\'ve overheard disgruntles like \"it\'s only a port, there\'s not enough tracks, it\'s unrealistic, it\'s monotonous, not enough modes?\" In reply to you people, get a life, Burnout rocks. It is true this game is a port from the PS2 version, but the graphics and frame-rates have been substantially improved both on the XBOX and Gamecube versions. Burnout also offers a more than generous selection of tracks, 5 different game modes and the most gut-wrenching speed I\'ve seen in a video game title. It\'s truly been awhile since my palms have been sweating playing a video game before, and I can appreciate this in any video game that accomplishes it. This game has a sense of speed that I have never experienced before and being \"unreal\" is what makes this game tick. Then when you add on driving in the wrong lane of a divided highway at 140MPH against on-coming traffic during rush hour, you are in for some serious road rage action. On top of that you\'re going to experience the best visual car crashes ever seen in a driving game. So grab your Gamecube controller, get yourself a towel to wipe away the sweat from your palms, and enjoy one of the most enjoyable video game titles to hit the Cube yet, it\'s Burnout time. Graphics: Burnout is pretty, not Gran Turismo pretty, but can certainly hold it\'s own against what has been released in the past and is easily the best racer to hit the Gamecube so far. The most appealing aspect of the graphics is not so much the great environments that Burnout offers, but it\'s the tremendous sense of speed. Even when things get busy on-screen, this game smoothly keeps the amazing 60 frames per second even when you got the turbo activated. When you go 140MPH, it truly feels like you\'re going that fast, and that can\'t be stressed enough. That is what will draw you in, It\'s simply the fastest race car game I\'ve ever seen on any console. Being unrealistically fast means more fun for the gamer. But don\'t think the visual appeal doesn\'t stop with just the speed, Burnout also emulates the most realistic car crashes and visual car damage that has ever been seen on a video game. You\'ll witness exciting 20 spin rollovers with your pickup, windshields will shatter, tires will fly, cars will fly over guardrails and semis will turn your car into chop suey. The environments are very well done, but in all honesty, you won\'t be able to look at the scenery for very long considering the speeds you\'ll be driving. You\'ll zoom through congested cities with tall skyscrapers and hectic intersections, busy interstates with 2 to 5 lanes of jammed pack roads, and some scenic rural routes at different time of the day. Some of the tracks even have you undertake a little off-road action with some major dust-spittin. The car models are also very well done. As with many arcade style racers, these are not real licensed cars, but they look very similar to actual counterparts, so most enthusiasts won\'t mind. The 2-Player split screen mode works surprisingly well, although you will notice a slight cut back in the frame rates, but even-so, it really doesn\'t interfere with the gameplay itself, so grab a buddy and start dodging some serious cars. Control: You\'re going to be rewarded for driving crazy and taking risks. If you played Crazy Taxi before, Burnout is a bit reminiscent of the control feel, only you\'re going 10 times faster. Your car grips the road as if the tires had sticky glue on them. The control is tight and very responsive. The physics do defy how things would be in the real world, but that is why this game is so great. I\'ve never felt so in control of a car before at these speeds. But even though the arcade style of Burnout doesn\'t require immense strategy, you\'ll still need to perfect your timing when to brake and drift on a corner. It\'s really a perfect blend of risk taking and quick reflexes. As stated above, this game is about driving nutty and taking extreme risks to win. Much like many other racers, there are continuous checkpoints throughout the tracks, but the difference with Burnout that makes it standout from the rest is the fact that driving stupid will get you better race results. For example, if you go in the on-coming traffic lane you are rewarded with \"Turbo\" if you keep your car going for a certain amount of time. The turbo allows you to increase you\'re already fast speeds by 20%. You\'ll also be rewarded by having \"near-misses\" against going or on-coming vehicles. There is truly a rewarding feeling while taking your shiny sports car between two semis on a divided highway going 120MPH. The different modes of play include a championship mode, time trial, and a single race mode. The championship mode is the meat and potatoes of Burnout. Here is the mode where you can earn new cars, unlock new tracks and even get rewarded with some new un-disclosed modes. The replay value is apparent in this title through and through. You\'ll want to perfect your driving skills by not crashing and beating your best time over and over, you\'ll never want to put the controller down! Sound: Ahh, the sweet sound of getting hit broadside by a semi is a very sweet sounding accomplishment. In a nutshell, the crash noises of glass shattering when you get smacked broadside is the most enticing aspect of Burnout. The realistic engine noises are also very well done, but in all honesty, when driving at 140MPH, are you really going to pay attention to the authenticity of the engine noises anyway? As for the music, well, you\'ve definitely experienced better sound before in a racing game. The standard techno generic riffs are simply not very catchy and I found myself turning off the music all together so I can experience the crash noises more accurately. Be that as it may, as a whole, things are well done within Burnout. Final Call: I\'ll say it once and I\'ll say it again, this game deserves more recognition. It is a fact it\'s not the deepest plunge you\'ll take on a racing title, but it\'s definitely one of the most entertaining ones I\'ve ever experienced. The most enticing aspect of this title is the sense of speed, it\'s absolutely the fastest speed demon I\'ve ever come across, and that fact alone should draw you in to having it in your library. Pile on 14 well designed tracks, nice car selection and plenty of different game modes, and you\'ll want to play over and over. Burnout is a must have, buy it now and let out some road rage in the privacy of your own home. The Good And The Bad: + Bar-none, best sense of speed I\'ve ever seen in a video game. + Sound is great, great crash noises, music is only ok. + Control is right on the mark, totally tight. + Tons of tracks to earn. - Music needs more spunk.<content> <rating>1010<rating> <author>John<author> <authoremail>ohioguy24@aol.com<authoremail> <date> - The Realm of Gaming"> <META NAME="description" Be that as it may, as a whole, things are well done within Burnout. - Music needs more spunk.<content> <rating>1010<rating> <author>John<author> <authoremail>ohioguy24@aol.com<authoremail> <date> Review<br>BurnOut<subtitle> <content>Without any shadow of a doubt, this game is very underrated, and then some.
