Street Fighter 3: Team Battle

3 Strikes a Home Run?

Forget your Double Impact at home? Don't cry over spilled milk, my friends….Street Fighter 3: Third Strike is here and kicking more booty than a pimp on pay day. Yell, scream, and beg your parents for the pocket change on this one people cause this one's a keeper. Gill the master of the loin cloth has decided to host another tournament, a tournament so wonderful that you'll wonder if you've died and gone to Street Fighter Heaven. There are so many improvements on this title that you'll begin to believe the lame excuses that Capcom has thrown at you over the years of having to rush this Street Fighter series. If you were one of those people, who said the new characters in Double Impact blew then look at what these babies can do now plus there is addition of more new characters making the total of characters to a respectable 19. Not only that but more beautiful backgrounds have been constructed with interactive genius. But even more than that! Look at this beautiful graphic art…. Stuff like this belongs in the Louvre!

Every Fighter has been improved upon either by adding more moves, more speed, or both. Combos seem more fluid and less rigid to pull off. It seems that the Play Control that Capcom so prides itself on is back. Look at Hugo for example, the big funny looking pink spandex wearing monstrosity of a man, he has been given combos now. ::studio audience applauds:: In Fact the stuff he can do now makes him one of the best characters in the game. Rather than just picking someone up and throwing, them to the ground like in Double Impact, he can throw a person against the wall, catch them mid-air off the rebound into a back breaker and then into his Super Art Sumo Splash. A mouthful I know but impressive none the less. You are still able to select which Super Art you want at the beginning of the character selection but it seems that the Art of the Super Art has been dumbed down to the simple double rotation fireball not unlike Marvel Vs. Capcom 2. The best option put in Third Strike has to be the ability to select your next opponent from the 2 choices given. This gives Third Strike much more replay value rather then being forced to play the same characters repeatedly. A rating system has also been installed to show your performance after each match, so if you happen to be a cheap-o then get ready to fail Street Fighting School with all E's.

The new characters included in this game really shine with the power that the Original Street Fighter cast had. With Characters like Twelve the morphing T200 like soldier of Gill's Army, Q the quiet mysterous robot, Makoto the young world renown karate champ and Remy the French bad ass with giant hands, you begin to see what I'm talking about. There is a special surprise in Third Strike also. Chun-Li is back and her sexy sexy legs! Wowzer! (Even though, her jump suit from alpha is noticeably missing L) Now once again I believe these new characters are not fleshed out enough, but they are still great additions to this Capcom Universe. But wait, there is another gift from Capcom in the character department. Gill is now 75% more of a cheap ass than before. Now for all those who enjoy being a god when they play it may seem like a good deal but for the rest of us who like a level playing field where mortals fight mortals it means Hell Is Coming to Frog Town (a truly great B-movie avaliable at most movie rental stores). Gill has been given a new Super Art where he turns into an angel and shoots these killer rainbows from his bodus…its like a Gay Parade gone bad! Not many can withstand such an overwhelming blast. To test this out just beat the game with all the characters on any skill level and he should be hidden right bellow Yang.

The music is the real gem in this fighting game, who ever thought that Third Strike should have a rap song for the character selection screen gets my vote for cool idea man/woman of the year. The Lyrics are a little lame but the sound makes it worthy of something to listen to in the car. Who wants to hear "Take Me For A Ride" over and over again for hours on end as you play, anyway? There is also another great addition to the music. Have you ever gotta heli-tired of hearing the same song over and over again when u play a multiple round match…well its not the case with Third Strike…each round is a different remix of that stages music which is truly excellent when you're stuck on a tuff chracter like Hugo (damn him and his new found combo greatness L).

Overall this game is a great success and fixes the flaws the other Street Fighter 3's had. I think this should have been the first Street Fighter 3 to begin with and maybe the series wouldn't have fallen into such dissaray…but then again how long did it take for them to make Street Fighter 3 anyway since Street Fighter 2 came out oh so long ago?
