Sony PlayStation 2
Sony's PlayStation 2 came out on October 26th, 2000 in the U.S. after being released in March in Japan. With manufacturing delays, the PS2 only ended up selling a few million units. The PlayStation 2 was very popular and was hard to find on store shelves for some time; though you could get a PS2 that was grossly overpriced on Ebay. The PS2 sold well on the fact that it could play DVDs, was backwards compatible with the PlayStation games, and the developed PlayStation brand. In September of 2004, Sony revealed a slimmer version of the PlayStation 2 dubbed the PStwo. There were eventually over 100 million PlayStation 2 consoles sold. |
