X Rebirth Updates To Version 3.60
Along with the release of Version 3.60 for X Rebirth for Windows, EGOSOFT has also launched open beta for Mac OS X and Linux.
With a tradition of releasing big new features in free updates for their games, even years after the game's original release, EGOSOFT hopes to provide DLCs or even new games in the future. However, new DLC would only be worthwhile if a large amount of additional content to the universe were deemed necessary. But, improvements to the UI or new AI commands could be put into a free update, separate to a DLC.
In Version 3.60, players can now turn off flight assist on the Albion Skunk and try out different flight controls that are a little more difficult, but far more realistic. This change is serving as a test for future games and as a way to gather opinions and feedback from the community on this new feature.
In the future, EGOSOFT hopes to create an entirely new X Game as a way to improve a lot of things that cannot be improved using a DLC or update. These are the kind of things that would cause massive changes to balancing or completely change the structure of the economy, such as the ability to actively fly all ships yourself, actively command from the bridges of capital ships, improved maps, and entirely new UI systems for commanding groups of ships.
