"Business is War."
Starbreeze has re-imagined the 1993 game, Syndicate, but this time as a first-person shooter (FPS). The game has been in development for the past couple years and is scheduled for release in February 2012. Syndicate is being published by EA. The game has a futuristic story, includes co-op gameplay, and adds unique features to switch up the typical FPS feel.
The game is set in 2069 and rival corporations are fighting over the American markets. The world is full of greed and deception. The player becomes part of this world as Miles Kilo, an agent of Eurocorp, the largest of the corporations competing for the market. War is brewing and every corporation has an agent. Kilo must fight for his corporation's greed.
Syndicate includes co-op gameplay which is separate from the single-player campaign and includes four different characters. Within co-op, having multiple team mates can help speed up the breaches that would otherwise take more time on your own.
Players may upgrade their "breach" abilities as they progress in single-player mode. One such breach allows you to hack the embedded chip of an enemy and make them suicidal. You also have the persuade function built into your chip (similar to the original game) to get foes to align with your side and fight with you. Also a lot of the environmental interaction is planned. The player will unlock abilities as they progress through Syndicate.
Be on the lookout for the rebooted Syndicate on February 21, 2012 in North America for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. It will also be available in Europe on February 24, 2012.
From Press Release:
"We are excited to finally reveal what we've been working on the past couple years," says Mikael Nermark, CEO of Starbreeze Studios. "It's been a great experience working with EA, and an amazing opportunity for us to use our expertise in the first person shooter and action genres to bring back, and reignite, the signature action/espionage gameplay of Syndicate."
"Our goal with Syndicate is to provide a challenging action shooter for today's gamers as well as fans of the original. I'm sure they will enjoy and recognize the legacy that made it such a classic," says Jeff Gamon, EA Partners Executive Producer. "Fans of the franchise will recognize many weapons and environments in the game, but in a whole new way. The game also provides a separate and deep 4-player co-op mode featuring missions from the original cult classic, which adds another layer of depth to the overall experience."
