New Splatoon Content Coming in August
It has been announced that a new software update for Splatoon will be coming on August 5, 2015. This new update will contain new matchmaking modes, new gears and weapons, and a new level cap.
The two new matchmaking modes are Squad Battle and Private Battle. Squad Battle allows players to participate in Ranked Battle rule sets with their friends, instead of a random selection of players. Players can create squads and recruit their friends to form of a team of two to four Inklings. Friends will always play together on the same team and be matched against random squads in battle.
Private Battle allows friends to split into private customizable matches. Two to eight friends can select their favorite mode, weapons, and maps, then duke it out. The number of participants is variable, going from between 1 vs. 1 to 4 vs. 4, but it doesn’t have to be even. Hosts can choose to have 1 vs. 4, 2 vs. 3, or any other combination of players.
The update will also have an increased level cap in both Regular Battle and Ranked Battle. Players can now reach level 50 and ranks S and S+. There are also two new weapon types to play around with. The Slosher is a bucket-like weapon with great range, allowing players to blast opponents that are high up or on the other side of a wall. The Gatling-style Splatling can charge blasts of ink for greater power. There will also be new gear purchasable in the in-game shops, such as a leather jacket or a sushi-chef costume.
More free updates will be available in the future. A Rainmaker Ranked Battle mode, new maps, and new weapons have been currently teased, though no concrete release date has been announced yet.
