New Information on “New Super Mario Bros. U”

There has been some new information on some of the game modes available on the upcoming New Super Mario Bros. U for the Wii U.

Challenge Mode has players attempting to complete levels while satisfying certain conditions. Said conditions can include challenges such as not collecting a single coin or touching the ground. While some of these challenges can be tackled by a lone player, Boost Mode Challenges will require two people. After completing a challenge, the game will save a replay so that players can show off to each other.

Coin Battle pits up to four players against each other in a race to see who can collect the most coins. The Wii U GamePad can also be used by another player in Boost Mode to do a variety of things such as placing boost blocks to help other players reach the more difficult-to-grab coins as well as edit the coin layout; customized coin layouts can be saved and used by future players.

The game features a world map that is built so that players can play non-linearly. Secret exits can be found that can change the map layout as well as cause shortcuts to appear. The worlds are also interconnected so that players can tackle levels however they wish.

Throughout the games a certain enemy may also appear on the world map. This enemy is known as the Nabbit and it has apparently stolen items from Toad. Catching a Nabbit and returning the stolen goods to Toad will net players an item known as the P-Acorn which allows them to continually fly across the stage all the way to the finish line.

New Super Mario Bros. U is set for a November 30th, 2012 release.
