Interview with Raychul Moore

My name is Raychul and I am a freelance writer and video host in the game industry. I have written for companies like GamePro, EGM and Machinima. Gaming is what I do. :)

How did you first get into gaming?
My first experience with games outside of the arcade was when my dad brought home my first system, the Atari 2600. After that, I was hooked and had every system from that to current systems now. Once I picked up that controller, I haven't put it down.

What games have you played recently and which do you like most?
Recently, I finished Hunted: Demon's Forge, Alice Madness Returns, Duke Nukem Forever, Dungeon Siege 3 and Shadows of the Damned. They are all fun games, but I probably enjoyed Hunted and Alice the most.

What is your favorite game of all time?
This question is always the hardest to answer. It's impossible to pick just one game of all time, so how about I give my top 5. I am gonna have to go with Uncharted 2, BioShock, Silent Hill 2, Eternal Darkness and God of War.

How did you get into journalism?
I got into journalism kind of by accident. Growing up, we didn't really have "game press". We didn't read a magazine to find out what to play next, we would go to the local video rental store and look at all the new games, then make a decision from that. So, game journalism really wasn't a profession I ever really thought about as an option for a career for my life. Then, as I got older, more and more game publications were popping up like EGM, Nintendo Power then GamePro. I wrote into EGM one day and they ran a feature on me, the GamePro saw the feature and quickly scooped me up. After that, GamePro really taught me everything I needed to know to become a real game writer and I really owe all of my success to them!

What is your favorite cosplay experience?
My favorite cosplay experience is definitely dressing up as Cammy from Street Fighter. I have always been a Cammy girl, yet Chun Li gets all the love. So dressing up as Cammy and meeting so many other Cammy fans is always awesome. Plus, to have Capcom tell you that you are their favorite Cammy cosplayer is something special too.

Raychul Moore - Kratos Cosplay

A close runner-up is when I dressed up as Kratos from God of War and was asked to attend the God of War panel at SDCC. I was then brought up on stage and got to meet a lot of the God of War creators, writers and artists. That was a fangirl moment for me.

What other characters have you been?
Other than Cammy and Kratos, I have been Poison from Final Fight, Supergirl, Natalia Kassle from the Danger Girl comics and this year I will be Babydoll from Sucker Punch, Thor, and a superhero version of Snow White.

Who would you most like to portray in cosplay that you haven't already?
If I could do any costume and didn't have to worry about the cost of materials, I would love to be the Big Sister version of Eleanor from BioShock 2. I adored that game and her outfit. Plus, there was something sexy in the way she walked, I just loved it.

I also plan on dressing up as Gem from Tron Legacy one of these days too.

How long have you been modeling?
I was very much into the modeling scene a few years ago, but it was never anything I wanted to make a career out of. Modeling is fun and all, but just not something I wanted to take too seriously. All in all, I have been modeling since about 2001. I have a bunch of new shoot ideas brewing and look forward to getting those done soon.

How was WonderCon 2011?
Wondercon is always fun. It's like a smaller and more intimate version of Comic Con, which means I can get a lot more action figure shopping done! Also, you get more one-on-one time with the celebrities. I always do a lot of interviews with people like Nicolas Cage, Jerry Bruckheimer and Jake Gyllenhaal while at Wondercon and being able to chat with them more than just one or two questions is always tons of fun.

What was it like doing interviews there?
The interviews are a lot of fun, especially when people aren't yelling over each other or sticking their mics into your interview like they do a lot at Comic Con. You get a more personal setting and can have more of a chat with the people their promoting their movies rather than a strict interview.

What did you think of E3 this year? What game(s) made the biggest impact on you?
I always love going to E3, but this past year was rather lack-luster. There were too many sequels and remakes, too many big-hitters where already announced and nothing "popped" like in past E3's. The games I am most looking forward to are Saints Row 3, Dead Island, Gears of War 3, Uncharted 3, Skyrim and game I am most excited about is definitely BioShock Infinite.

Where can people go to find out more about what you've done? Well since I work from home I am on the internet ALL the time, so you can find me just about anywhere. Here are a few of my favorite haunts: Twitter: @theRaychul

And of course there is my personal website which is and that has links to all of my past written and video work. Also I do a live chat every Wednesday at 3pm PST/ 6pm EST on at and would love for any of your readers to pop in for that one day. :)
